C++ is a popular programming language that's used in a variety of applications. It has object-oriented and imperative features and offers low level memory manipulation. C++ developers are responsible for designing, coding, testing and debugging software applications. At times they will also be asked to implement the application. C++ developers can work alone or in teams depending on the size and scope of the project. They should be comfortable with meeting with clients to discuss the project and inspect the equipment the application will be deployed on. Attending project meetings, leading teams of programmers and coordinating with other departments are all common requirements of the job.
Skills that are required to be successful in this field includes having a strong work ethic, being detail oriented, having good time management and robust communication skills, as well as being able to work well with different technologies. Most employers require a candidate to have a bachelor’s in computer science or a programmer’s certification depending on the level of the job. Often times, industry experience in engineering or mathematics will take the place of certification. C++ developers can find employment in many industries, such as customer service, engineering, media, finance and research although a vast majority is found in the telecommunications industry. The Bureau of Labor indicates that software-as-a-service or SaaS is a growing field and is composed of applications provided through the Internet. SaaS programs will work on all platforms and do not need any rewriting to work on different platforms.
