Devops Engineers are professionals in the IT field that work with system operators, software developers and other IT team members to create and manage code releases. They are responsible for project planning, developing IT solutions, managing routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Once an application or platform is released, they use gap analysis to identify solutions and modifications that enhance the overall performance and usability. These engineers write code and scripts that tie various components together into a new solution or program that meets the needs of the organization. Rather than only focusing on the development process, these engineers also work with the operations teams to help run the programs and monitor day-to-day operations.
Devops Engineers close the gap between developers and operations. Rather than only focusing on writing the code for new programs, they are also responsible for assisting with deployment and daily operations to improve function and usability. Their in-depth knowledge of the system and the organization helps them create solutions that meet both internal and external needs. The ideal Devops Engineer candidate possesses an in-depth understanding of many different open-source tools and technologies. They can write code and script quickly, and have experience with IT operations and systems. The ability to use automation tools is a plus. Experience using incremental code deployment and testing tools is also handy. A Devops Engineer must also have a strong focus on improving business outcomes through product and program releases.
